Recoil - Stand By

I need to stop this late night tea drinking. I'm sleeping and getting up later each day because of it.

On the upside of things, I've been getting my rear in gear (yussssss...finally) and hit school. Downside? No consultations done, so all my ideas might be getting hit with a massive truck, but the productivity has really been unprecedented. Hit the site twice over the last few days, day and night visits. Just some major concerns about human traffic flow, but I think they can get ironed out.

Having friends doing their A levels really puts things in perspective. It's 12/13 years of hard schooling to this moment for them and you really see them put the pressure on. Kinda gives you motivation to work harder.

So much good games coming out for the Christmas season. Call of Duty, Marvel Alliance 2, Dragon Age. Jeebus.

Marvel Alliance 2, is a solid game, very fun for 4 players. Combo's are epic and I cannot wait to unlock Thor or The Hulk.

Discovered where my lecturers have been getting all their site analysis notes from. Bloody PPS book from the library. The way they do things is honestly quite unorthodox, but it has incredible merits. I would say though, that it works best in countries or places, where the community culture is such that they care enough to weigh the pros and cons of a social situation.

For example, my HDB void deck is used very regularly by my friends and I, to study, do work, read, chat etc etc. However, we've had the police called down on us twice. Now, we don't make much noise, and I'm fairly certain we're not a nuisance to the neighborhood, except for the minor messes we make now and then. The coffee shop across the road trusts and knows us the point where we bring whole meals over to eat because they know we'll clean up after ourselves and return the crockery.

Now, if we were not present, what would the void deck become? Possibly a haven for a more unsavory group? Noisier or messier. Worse yet, remains totally unused.

My point is this, why are the residents of an area, troubled by a group of fairly well behaved youths, who clear up after themselves and more or less become the "eyes" on the street? Would you rather your children or daughters walk home unaccompanied to a deserted stretch of corridor, or one that has a decent regular group of civic minded individuals? (To clarify, my friends and I are not perfect and we do litter and spill drinks on occasion)

Bottom line, its up the community, but I would honestly prefer one that is able to constructively view the scenario to have one that is the most suitable as opposed to simply complaining to the police because their unhappy about a few cigarette butts on the floor.

Net social benefit > Personal cost

Simple as that.

Vexed.

I am being stupid and I don't know why.

I am better than this. I know I am.

"Get your ass off the floor, go to school, go and be alive."

Tch.

Green-Tinted Sixties Mind!

Mr. Big was epic. Really really was. Best $80 ever! So many highlights to the show, but they truly showed off their musicianship and excellence at performing.

Highlights for me include the harmony Sheehan, Gilbert and Torpey did. Just them, the crowd clapping and a quiet drum beat. Totally brilliant.

About 2/3rds of the way through "Addicted To That Rush" they started playing "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC before finishing up the first song.

Then.. A SECOND ENCORE! They did their first one with "To Be With You" and "Colorado Bulldog" but when Visa and I were leaving, we suddenly heard someone yell, "YOU WANT SOME MORE?!" A sprint back revealed them with swapped instruments and playing "Smoke On The Water" followed by "Shyboy".

God, just a brilliant night.

. . . . .

Started school the next day. Got the P3 brief and the site *breathe* is a lot better. I definitely think I can connect to this one, so I think I can push myself for this project. Hell, I'd better.

So there's the site. I missed the site visit and hit the library and met up with the others from my group. Got a cool/fun idea for the Site Analysis presentation, so I reckon it'll work out alright. Got a good feeling for this project.

So here's to a good 2 blocks ahead! *fingers crossed*

Time to get busy.

The holidays are drawing to a close and its almost time to head back into school and a brand new project. My timetable is pretty light! Most blocks having only 1 module. I didn't choose an elective though, meaning I'll have to add/drop one and I hope I don't end up in some class with no one to hang out with.

My grades came out okay. 2.84 GPA which is actually an improvement, something I didn't expect. I reckon I can try and push it up to a 2.9 for my next semester and hopefully, at the end of school, I'll be at 3.

Finished "The Witch of Portobello" a couple of days back. It's quite decent, similar vein to "The Alchemist" and there are interesting character developments. The story is done in a transcribed manner from the view points of all the other people around the main character and how she influenced them. The book talks about the growth, character and personalities of people and how we are often drowning ourselves in the things of the world and become afraid of change. That there is a side of us that is part of a great whole and we need to strive to return to it. It speaks of how we find it through entering a state of mind or body which is utterly contrary to what we view ourselves to being and although being afraid of that difference, we should still move towards it in order to rejoin the "whole".

On the whole, a pretty engaging book and I'd rate it a 3.5/5.

Currently, I'm reading "Kill Your Friends" by John Niven and its fantastic. It's vicious, filthy, sexist..just WHOA book, and its incredibly funny and you laugh even though you know you shouldn't. It's based on the workings of a man who works for a record label and focuses on his work and the industry he's in. I'm about a 1/3 of the way through so I reckon I'll post something a bit more concise later on.

It's the 15th today, which means 4 more days till school and 3 more days to....MR BIG AT FORT CANNING!!!! I can't wait to go the whole original line up and hear them play. Visa went for Sheehan's clinic a while back and it was awesome in itself so I can't imagine what it'll be like when we see the reunion of awesome.

It's gonna be an awesome end to the holidays!
